A humanist psychologist who was Abraham Maslow developed a new theory about hierarchy of needs in the 1943s. In the hierarchy of needs theory, Maslow divided the human basic needs into five different level that shown in a pyramid shape. The first level which is in the lowest floor of pyramid is Physiological need. Physiological need is the fundamental need in the human life and it must be fulfil or satisfied to meet the next human basic need. In the second position of the hierarchy of needs theory pyramid, there is the basic human need of safety or also well known as Security need. Now we are going to discussed about the second level of the Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory which is Security need.
Security need is appearing when you already fulfil or satisfied the physiological need. Once physiological needs are fulfil or satisfied, then attention turns to safety or security in order to be free from the threatening of physical and emotional harm. In the Maslow’s theory the Security need is including Personal security such as live in the safe area, Financial security like having savings accounts in a bank or have a settled job, and also Health and well-being such as having medical insurance policies. Security need is have to do with the people who yearning for an unpredictable event in world in which perceived unfairness and inconsistency under control.
Not only that, the security need also has to do with an establish stability and consistency in a mess world. It means that every people have to be in a secure way or avoided from the threatening of physical and emotional harm. An adult people, sometimes shown a little awareness of a safety except when they are in the dangerous situation, but the children, they are need to secure by adult people, that is sate in the Maslow’s theory.
